Meningitis, Skin or Soft Tissue Infection

Bacterial meningitis, or inflammation of the membranes covering your brain and spinal cord, is a rare side effect of K. pneumoniae. This happens when bacteria infect the fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord.
Hospital environments are the typical setting for K. pneumoniae meningitis cases.
Meningitis typically results in the abrupt start of:
- elevated fever
- migraine
- stiff neck
Other signs and symptoms could be vomiting or nausea, photophobia, or light sensitivity, seizures, and confusion.
If K. pneumoniae enters through a break in your skin, it can infect your skin or soft tissue. This usually happens with wounds clauses by injury or surgery.
Infections of K. pneumoniae wound include:

Symptoms depend on the type of infection, they may include:
- pain

- redness
- fatigue
- flu-like symptoms
