Cardiac Changes

Disease and abnormality of the heart are also common in individuals that have systemic lupus erythematosus. Abnormalities can manifest themselves as:
-
Valve disease, that commonly manifests as mild mitral valve regurgitation.
-
Non-infectious endocarditis (inflammation of the heart valves), also referred to as Libman-Sacks endocarditis.
-
Coronary artery disease.
-
Pericardium disease (the thin membrane that surrounds the heart). Pericardium disease often manifests as inflammation i.e. pericarditis.
Inflammation of the muscles of the heart also called myocarditis. Myocarditis can cause heart failure.
