Top 10 Meningitis Symptoms

Seizures

Some people experience seizures during infection with meningitis. This is caused by the inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord caused by meningitis which can make the brain and nerves function abnormally.

Seizures due to meningitis [7] occur in 20 to 25 percent of those infected. These seizures can be very harmful to adults, especially when caused by bacterial meningitis. Viral meningitis tends to be less debilitating.

The seizures may be localized, affecting only some parts of the body. This type is often indicative of a poorer outcome [8]. Fortunately, there are treatments available to prevent seizures from happening or recurring.
