Conclusion

Viral meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (the protective covering surrounding the central nervous system) that occurs due to viral infections. It is not as severe as bacterial meningitis, and is only accompanied by mild symptoms, such as lethargy, bright-light sensitivity, nausea, and headache. However, in rare cases, it may lead to more severe symptoms. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any symptoms of viral meningitis.
