Can you have viral meningitis more than once?

You can have viral meningitis multiple times. However, it is rare for you to have more than one episode of the condition because you will receive immunity to the virus that caused your disease. Studies show that recurrent viral meningitis is mostly caused by herpes simplex 2, and sometimes by herpes simplex 1. Viral meningitis that occurs more than once is clinically referred to as Mollaret meningitis. To be diagnosed with Mollarer meningitis, you will have to experience at least three episodes of the condition with symptoms such as fever, headache, stiff neck, and meningitis symptoms. These symptoms usually last for a few days, then leave on their own.
