What are the complications of meningitis?

Complications linked with viral meningitis are usually severe and life threatening. Some of them include:
- Hearing loss
- Vision loss
- Memory problems
- Migraine headaches
- Seizures
- Hydrocephalus
- Brain damage [6]
- A subdural empyema, or a buildup of fluid between the brain and the skull
A meningitis infection may increase the amount of bacteria in the bloodstream. These bacteria may multiply and release some toxins that can cause blood vessel damage and escaping of blood into the organs and skin.
