How to treat Viral Meningitis
Although antibiotics are not effective for treating viral meningitis, your doctor will prescribe them to you as the first line of treatment while waiting for test results. The next line of treatment usually depends on the test results. For example, if the condition is bacterial meningitis, you will require immediate treatment. For viral meningitis, your doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs such as acyclovir (Zovirax).
When the test shows that the meningitis is bacterial or viral, your drug routine will be adjusted as necessary.
