Is Viral Meningitis Contagious?

Viral meningitis is contagious but it rarely spreads. The viruses responsible for the condition can be transferred from person to another, but the condition itself is not easily transferred. It is only transferred between people who are in regular or close contact.
Enteroviruses are commonly found in the mucus, feces, and saliva of infected people. They can be contaminated through direct exposure with an infected surface and person. The virus spreads more during autumn and summer. Infection rates are usually high in subtropical and tropical climates.
You can contact the herpes simplex virus by coming in contact with an infected area of someone’s skin during an outbreak that is when the virus is active. Other viruses responsible for causing meningitis are spread in different ways. For instance, measles, mumps, and influenza are easily spread between people who have not been vaccinated by sneezing and coughing. HIV [5] on the other hand, can be spread through unprotected sex and sharing drug needles (since the virus resides in breast milk, seminal, rectal fluids, and blood).
