6 Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder(BPD)

Emotional Instability

People with BPD suffer from mood swings and extreme emotional reactions. Things other people may ignore may elicit intense emotional reactions from you. You may notice that you often display anger disproportionate to an offense or perceived slight.

Your mood may fluctuate between extremes of joy, sadness, anger, fear, shame, emptiness, and loneliness. The mood changes are often unpredictable. While these symptoms can be intense and sometimes resemble bipolar disorder, they are not the same. Mood swings in people with BPD are more transient and usually resolve within minutes or hours. The psychological term for this condition is affective dysregulation. [3]
