Postpartum depression
It usually occurs during the pregnancy or after the birth of the baby. When a woman is pregnant, there might be certain changes in her hormones that can tamper with her mood. Postpartum depression is beyond just baby blues. [4] Symptoms of postpartum depression may begin to occur immediately after childbirth and may go on for up to 2 weeks and in some cases more than 2 weeks. Some symptoms include:
- Changes in appetite.
- Social withdrawal.
- Panic and anxiety attacks.
- Troubling bonding with your newborn child.
- Thoughts of causing harm to yourself and/or the baby.
- Feeling of helplessness and hopelessness.
- Extreme mood swings.
- Constantly Feeling sad and unhappy.
