This is also called talking therapy. Some options include counseling sessions that are one-on-one, interpersonal psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, problem solving treatment etc. For some classes of depression and anxiety, psychotherapy is the first form of treatment applied, while in some cases it’s a combination of medications and psychotherapy.
Interpersonal psychotherapy and CBT are the two major forms of psychotherapy for anxiety and depression. A person will have a CBT session personally with a therapist, or over the phone, in groups or online. The aim of interpersonal therapy [7] is to help people identify;
- The emotional issues that affect communication and relationships.
- The effect these issues have on their moods.
- Steps that can be taken to change everything.
