Electroconvulsive Therapy

This procedure, which is done under anesthesia, involves attaching electrodes to the patient’s scalp to send electric shocks to the person’s brain. These shocks are sent to induce a controlled seizure which can be useful to improve the condition.
Electroconvulsive therapy is usually done about three times a week for several weeks. When this procedure is done constantly, it helps to improve the patient’s thought process.
However, there are some side effects that come with this kind of therapy. They are not usually serious. They include
- Nausea
- Headaches
- The confusion that lasts for some minutes
- Temporary memory loss
