Triptans

Triptans [5] medication work by mimicking the actions of neurotransmitter serotonin, and they are also known as serotonin receptor agonists. Similar to NSAIDs, triptans are more suitable for short-term applications such as menstrual migraine prophylaxis.

Its Effectiveness

Frovatriptan is an example of triptan medication that is effective in reducing migraine frequency in study participants. Another study showed that naratriptan is effective in reducing menstrual migraine attacks. It is to be taken 2 days before menstruation and 3 days during.

Its Side Effects

Common side effects of triptans include nausea, dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Triptan as a preventive measure for migraine prophylaxis can show effectiveness in a matter of hours.
