What Are the Triggers of the Migraine Symptoms?

There are no specific causes of migraines in individuals. Hence, the most suitable way to avoid migraines is by avoiding triggers. These triggers are unique to each individual, and a person can have many triggers. Here are the common ones:
- Preservatives and sweeteners: Some sweeteners like aspartame can set off a migraine. Hence, it may be advisable to check labels to avoid sweeteners and preservatives like monosodium glutamate (MSG).
- Stress: One of the most typical triggers of migraine symptoms is stress. High levels of physical and mental stress can cause migraine. Individuals with high levels of the home and work-life stress can experience recurring migraines.
- Hormonal changes in women: One of the common causes of migraine is the fluctuations in estrogen, usually before or during menstrual periods, pregnancy, and menopause. In some cases, hormonal medicines may also worsen the condition of migraines.
Aside from these causes, there are other significant triggers of migraine. Other examples of these triggers are weather changes, sleep changes, sensory stimuli, foods, and medications. A change in weather causes a shift in barometric pressure, which causes a migraine to take place.
