Altered Sense of Taste
Actually, dry mouth may have effects to your taste buds and cause taste disorders. Taste buds are the mouth organs responsible for differentiating sourness, saltiness, sweetness, and bitterness. The taste buds can identify taste once the compounds in food are dissolved in saliva. Like body’s other senses, taste buds are directly connected to the nerves of brain. When you eating, these two senses work together and your taste buds can tell apart the basic flavors, including sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. If anyone of these two goes wrong with either, it can cause a person’s taste to change. Hence, dry mouth, otherwise called xerostomia, makes it difficult to identify flavors due to the lack of saliva to dissolve.
