Diagnosis

A dentist may frequently only smell a patient’s breath and assign the odor a six-point strength rating if they suspect halitosis. In order to identify the source of the odor, the dentist may scrape the back of the tongue and smell the scrapings.
More accurate odor ratings are possible using a range of advanced detectors.
Here’s a list of them:
- Halimeter: This instrument measures sulfur levels.
- Gas chromatography: this detector measures three volatile sulfur compounds, they are hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide.
- BANA test: A specific enzyme produced by bacteria that causes halitosis is measured by the BANA test. [5]
- Tests for the enzyme beta-galactosidase have been found to be correlated with levels of bad breath.
Conclusion
Bad breath also known as halitosis is a terrible condition to have. It makes it difficult to live among other people because of the discomfort it’ll bring them. To check your mouth breath ask your friend or family to help perceive your mouth. If you notice that you have a mouth odor, it is best to visit your dentist for better diagnosis and treatment.
