What Is The Difference between Gingivitis and Periodontitis?

How to Know If You Have Gingivitis or Periodontitis?

Here are some tips on how to know the difference between the two conditions:

  • Age: Older people are more susceptible to periodontitis. However, gingivitis can occur in both young people and old people.
  • Pain: If you experience pain when chewing it means your periodontal disease has worsened from gingivitis to periodontitis.
  • Tooth condition: The teeth will remain in position if you have gingivitis. However, your gums may feel irritated, red and swollen. If you feel your teeth are out of place, it is a sign of periodontitis.
  • Breath: Periodontitis is accompanied by bad breath because of the presence of excess bacteria in your mouth.
