Treatment Options

There is currently still no cure for mitochondrial dysfunction. However, some treatments could help slow down the progress and improve symptoms. Depending on the severity and affected organs, there are a few options available. These include:

– Exercises: The goal is to increase muscle strength and size. Resistance or strength training includes weight lifting, knee extensions, arm curls, or sit-ups. Endurance exercises include cycling, dancing, swimming, running, or walking.

– Supplements: L-arginine, creatine, L-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin B2, vitamin B1, coenzyme Q10.

– Conserving energy: Avoid working or playing too much in a short period.
