Dopamine and Parkinson Disease- What to Know

Other causes of Parkinson disease

Apart from low level of dopamine, there are other factors that cause this health condition, some of these factors include:

  • Genetics: changes in some genes and mutations serve as a cause of this illness but it is not considered as a hereditary disease. Only about 10 percent of this disease arises from family background.
  • Lewy bodies: people with clumps of proteins called alpha-syncline in their brains may also get affected with this health condition. The accumulation of these proteins leads to loss of nerve cells and therefore leads to mood swings, change in thinking, behavior and movement.
  • Environments: there are toxins in the environment such as manganese or MPTP which may result in Parkinson disease especially in genetically susceptible patients.
  • Mitochondria is referred to as the powerhouse of the body. Mitochondria dysfunction may cause degeneration of the neurons and further lead to this medical condition.
  • Low level of norepinephrine: this is also a neurotransmitter, it contributes to blood circulation and other automatic body processes. The low level of this neurotransmitter leads to motor and non-motor symptoms such as dementia, tremor, anxiety, postural instability and even leads to orthostatic hypotension in patients. When the nerve endings that produce this neuron is damaged, it also causes Parkinson disease
