Nosebleeds (Epistaxis): Causes, Remedies & Prevention

Types of Nosebleeds

There are two main types of nosebleeds and they are described by the location in which it occurs, they include:

Anterior nosebleeds

The anterior nosebleed occurs at the lower portion of the septum, the wall that divides your nose’s two sides. This front part of your nose has delicate capillaries and tiny blood vessels that are prone to breaking and bleeding. This is the most typical form of epistaxis, which is usually not serious. Children are more likely to experience these nosebleeds. These nosebleeds are typically treatable at home.

Posterior nosebleeds

Posterior nosebleed is when your nose bleeds from the back, deep inside. This type is brought on by a bleeding in the major blood arteries in the back of the nose, close to the throat. It might cause significant bleeding that runs down the back of your throat. For a nosebleed of this nature, you could require immediate medical assistance. Adults are more prone to suffer from this type.
