Diagnosis of Post-Polio Syndrome

There are no specific tests that can diagnose PPS. However, your doctor will diagnose PPS after performing a physical exam and asking questions about your medical history and the symptoms you are experiencing.
They will also aim to rule out other possible conditions that could be causing similar symptoms. They must also rule out other conditions that could be causing your symptoms. Your provider may order any of the following tests for diagnosing PPS and rule out other conditions:
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT (computed tomography) scans of your spinal cord.
- Muscle biopsy.
- Electromyogram (EMG).
- Spinal fluid analysis.
