Causes and Risk Factors of Sepsis

Infections

One of the most fundamental causes of sepsis is infections. The medical condition is a result of how the body responds to some significant infections. The release of body chemicals to fight these infections is out of balance in sepsis, and it causes severe changes that damage several organ systems.

Examples of infections that could cause sepsis includes pneumonia, bloodstream infection, abdominal infection, and kidney infections.

Conclusion

Sepsis can result in septic shock and death when it’s not treated. For this reason, doctors use several types of medications to treat the condition. Major examples are vasoactive medications to increase blood pressure, insulin to stabilize blood sugar, and painkillers.
