Shingles Vaccination – What Everyone Should Know

How Effective Is Shingrix?

Shingrix is considered highly effective as a shingles vaccine. Two doses of shingrix will provide strong protection against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) [3]. Although certain factors may reduce its effectiveness, they include:

  • While shingrix is 97% effective in preventing shingles in adults between the ages of 50 and 69 who also have a healthy immune system; it drops to 91% effectiveness in adults above the age of 70
  • Shingrix is recorded to be between 68% and 91% effective in adults with weakened immune systems, depending on their underlying immunocompromising condition.
  • According to a study, shingrix was 91% effective in preventing PHN, in adults 50 years and older and 89% effective in adults 70 years and older.

Shingrix immunity remained high and effective for up to seven years in people who are 70 years and older and have a healthy immune system.
