10 GERD(Acid Reflux, Heartburn) Treatments

Stay away from Foods that Trigger Symptoms

If you have GERD, certain foods can increase the frequency and severity of your symptoms. [8] For many people, having too much acid in their stomachs can worsen their GERD. To improve your situation, you should avoid foods likely to cause acid reflux.

Avoid eating spicy foods, minty foods, fatty foods, garlic, onions, tomatoes, caffeinated drinks like coffee and chocolate, certain teas, and alcohol. You can try cutting these foods out of your diet and observe how feel after eating them. You may reincorporate those that don’t into your diet slowly.

Ultra-processed and artificial foods can also make your GERD symptoms worse or increase their frequency. Avoid them when shopping for what to eat. Instead, replace them with more GERD-friendly organic foods and lots of fruits and vegetables.
