Adsorbents
The reason for the development of diarrhea is the waste products, which are secreted by microbes into the intestinal lumen. These are gases and toxins that disrupt normal bowel function and inhibit the growth of normal microflora. Adsorbents are agents with a high ability to absorb gases and toxins, thereby reducing the severity of symptoms, but without affecting the root cause – pathogenic microorganisms. [3] Reception of adsorbents does not lead to a cure but only a temporarily relieve of the patient’s condition.
Drugs that Inhibit Peristalsis
They refer to auxiliary symptomatic agents that “paralyze” the intestines, thereby reducing the rate of movement of feces and reducing the severity of diarrhea. [4] They are not used in young children. It is possible and even better to do without taking this group of drugs with timely started pathogenetic treatment. Why? Although electrolytes, nutrients, and beneficial intestinal microflora are lost along with loose stools, it is still a protective reaction of the body, i.e., along with loose stools, pathogenic microorganisms and their metabolic products are also excreted, their concentration in the intestine decreases.
