Causes and Symptoms of Acid Reflux(Gerd)

Common Symptoms [4] of Acid Reflux

Regurgitation & Heartburn

Regurgitation is when undigested food backflows into the food pipe or esophagus and comes back into your mouth. It is another common symptom of GERD. It occurs when the digestive juices mix with the food and backflows to the throat. Maintaining an upright position or keeping your head elevated after eating can prevent regurgitation.

Heartburn is the most common symptom of acid reflux. It is a burning sensation in the chest and may extend down to the mid-chest or up to the neck. It occurs when the digestive juices go back up into the esophagus and irritate the lining. The burning sensation usually worsens when you take a lying down or relaxed position. Antacids provide immediate relief for heartburns. Heartburns may last only for a few minutes or up to two hours, depending on the severity of the disease. After it alleviates, the symptom may reoccur when you bend over or lie down.
