Causes and Symptoms of Acid Reflux(Gerd)

Sore Throat & Difficulty Swallowing

The backflow of stomach juices into your esophagus and far up into your throat can irritate your vocal cords. It can leave you with a scratchy feeling or hoarseness. This symptom is also known as reflux laryngitis, which is the inflammation of the vocal cords as a reaction to stomach acids. This condition is best treated with medication that hinders the production of stomach acids, known as receptor blockers or proton pump inhibitors

GERD patients often complain about a constant feeling that food particles are stuck in their throats. Acid reflux may cause the esophagus to narrow over time, making it difficult to swallow foods. This condition is called dysphagia, and it is when you experience mild pain when swallowing solid foods or a complete blockage.
