This condition can sometimes cause excessive belching by promoting increased swallowing. May cause a person to belch more frequently. When the sphincter at the top of a person’s stomach becomes weak, this can allow stomach acid to pass into a person’s esophagus, which may cause them to belch more often.

Occurs when stomach contents like acids, frequently back up into the esophagus. This causes chronic inflammation and irritation of the esophagus. Reflux esophagitis happens when the valve opens when it shouldn’t or doesn’t close properly, so the contents of the stomach may flow back into the esophagus. Regurgitation in this condition happens when the backflow of acid is frequent.
