Who Is Likely to Get Intestinal Gas?

Excess gas can make your stomach feel swollen or bloated, which will lead to the release of flatulence (sometimes foul smell). Though uncomfortable, excess gas is rarely a concern. Factors that makes you produce too much gas include:
- Dietary choices: There are certain gas-producing foods and consuming too much of it can make you release too much gas. Examples of such foods include: corn, potatoes, onions, beans, apples and high-fiber products [1].
- Behavioral factors: having the habit of swallowing air while chewing, talking or drinking.
- Intestinal infections: such as giardiasis that causes overgrowth of intestinal bacteria.
- Digestive problems: such as irritable bowel syndrome [2], celiac disease [3], and lactose intolerant [4].
- Medications or mortality disorders: certain drugs and disorders such as IBS, diabetes, and scleroderma can slow the bowels.
