Gastroparesis – Symptoms, Complications & Diagnosis

Common Symptoms of Gastroparesis

The disorder usually presents with anxiety, frequent vomiting, and satiety with a quick snack and a small portion. Because of the decomposing food in the stomach, the patient develops an unpleasant odor from the mouth. Food can return to the esophagus and cause heartburn. However, in some people, gastroparesis may not be significant and the onset of symptoms does not cause significant discomfort.

The signs and symptoms [4] of gastroparesis include:

    • Feeling full after eating only a few bites (early satiety)
    • Postprandial fullness
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting undigested food [5]
    • Acid reflux
    • Lack of appetite
    • Abdominal swelling (Bloating) [6]
    • Abdominal pain
    • Vomiting undigested food that has been eaten hours ago
    • Weight loss and malnutrition [7]
    • Changes in blood sugar level
