23 Weeks Pregnant: Baby Development, Symptoms and Signs

Fetal Activity

The activity of the fetus varies throughout the pregnancy. Babies will kick, roll and wiggle. Feeling your baby perform these activities is one of the most exciting things about pregnancy (better than heartburn, puffy feet and other happenings throughout the nine month). The activities of the fetus prove the development of a new life within you.

Fetal development during pregnancy can make you ask several questions such as “Is my baby kicking enough?” “Does my baby have four legs?” Every baby moves in different ways, it helps to understand what is happening in there, how, what to expect and when.

The first fetal activity is felt around 18 to 22 weeks. Pregnant women who are slim or expecting for the second time will most likely experience the first movements around the 4th month of pregnancy. The position of the placenta also affects when you will feel fetal movement: if it faces the front, it is referred to as anterior placenta, it can delay the movements and make the wait weeks longer.

If no movement has been felt by the middle of the fifth month, your doctor will order an ultrasound to observe how your baby is doing.
