Treatment

Breast abscesses is an illness in the breast area that is swollen and filled with pus. The first step is to drain the area filled with pus.
Firstly, an anesthetic [3] is used to dumb the body in order for the individual not to feel pain. Drainage of the pus can be done by the use of needles or making a slight cut of the affected area.
The needle process is mostly done when the individual is lactating and the size of the pus is less than 4 centimeters. Sometimes after the drainage, it leaves a large space. In such cases, the area is packed up in order to hasten the healing process.
Some medications that are prescribed to treat breast abscesses are penicillin, erythromycin, and cephalosporin such as cefazolin.
For non-lactating patients, there may be cases of re-occurrence and therefore, there may be a need for several forms of extraction or drainage.
After the process of drainage, the doctor prescribes some over-the-counter antibiotics. These drugs help to hasten healing, relieve the pain and closure of the opened cavity. Ibuprofen is a perfect example of such drugs. The individual will also be advised to use a warm compress to stop any form of inflammation or swelling.
