Wrinkly Nipple: What It Means & How to Treat It

Breastfeeding

Women who become pregnant, and carry those pregnancies to term, may observe that they feel many different changes in the appearance and texture of their nipples during and after the process. This may occur even if you don’t breastfeed. However, the nipples work extra during breastfeeding, and the look changes in preparation for a baby to feed. In most cases, the breasts enlarge to two or three times the normal size and the areolas and nipples will enlarge and darken.

The following happens when your baby isn’t latching on properly:

  • misshapen
  • pinched
  • irritated
  • infected
  • wrinkled

The nipples may get wrinkled immediately after breastfeeding as the breasts go back to their normal size. After breastfeeding, most women observe changes such as stretch marks and sagging of the breasts and changes in nipple and areola color. Some people experience little changes very after birth and breastfeeding.
