Low Body Temperature in Babies: Causes, Treatment, and Prevention

Infection

Another cause of low body temperature in babies is infection. Meningitis [5] refers to inflammation of the membranes around the spinal cord region. Meningitis can sometimes result in fever, but in other situations, it can lead to the baby’s body temperature dropping. Sepsis, on the other hand, is a harmful bacterial infection of the blood which is responsible for the low body temperature that occurs in babies. In certain situations, it can result in fever. However, both conditions are quite dangerous and life-threatening for infants. Therefore, ensure that you seek immediate medical attention once you notice symptoms such as cold hands and feet, rapid breathing, poor feeding, blotchy skin, sluggishness, weak crying and lots more.
