Can Tattoos Cause Cancer?

Scarring and Infectious Diseases

Scarring, though, could occur from tattoos that don’t heal properly. These hazards can also be increased by skin infections, allergic reactions, and scratching the tattooed area. If your tattoo does scar, you can be left with a tattoo that is uneven and keloids, which are elevated lumps of scar tissue. These could emerge in 3 to 12 months. You may require dermatological procedures, such as surgery, depending on how severe your scars are.

Sterilized needles must be used in tattoo studios by professionals with licenses. Unsterilized needle use is associated with an increased risk of certain infectious illnesses, such as Hepatitis C. [4], HIV/AIDS [5] and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) [6]. While there isn’t a clear link between tattoos and cancer, both hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS are linked to a higher risk of developing certain cancers.
