Things not to do if sand enters your eye

Sand entering your eye is not typically an emergency. But there are certain actions that may worsen the situation.
Don’t scratch your eye
The pain causes you to instantly want to scratch your eye in an attempt to get the sand out. However, this would only worsen the situation. Scratching your eye with sand in it can cause you to injure the outer layer of your eye. It is best to resist the urge to scratch until the particle is flushed out.
Don’t touch your eye with a cotton swab or tweezers
Inserting any type of foreign object such as tweezers or cotton swabs into your eye, especially if its sharpness will only worsen the situation.
