When to see a doctor

If sand gets in your eyes, the symptoms should subside after about an hour. If your symptoms persist or if they get worse, you should seek medical care. Some signs that indicate you need to see an eye doctor include:
- Your vision does not return to normal after the particle is flushed out
- If you can’t open your eye
- If you keep feeling like the sand is still in your eye even after it has been removed
- If pus comes out of your eye
Conclusion
Sand entering the eye is not typically a medical emergency. While it can be uncomfortable and cause pain, the key to removing sand from the eye is usually just a little bit of patience and sometimes a eyewash. If you are unable to remove the sand and your symptoms persist, you should immediately visit your eye doctor.
