How to Remove a Tick Head from a Dog or Cat

How Do You Remove a Tick Head that Broke off under Your Pet’s Skin?

The first thing to do when removing a tick bite from your pet’s skin is to clean the tick bite with alcohol. This is to prevent scraping bacterial infections into the affected skin.

Tweezers

Start the process of removing the tick’s head by using fine-tipped tweezers. Clean the tip of the tweezer with soap and hot water to ensure it is safe for usage. Place the angled edge of the tweezers and hold the tick’s head. You can ask someone to help you if the tick’s head is in a place where you cannot reach.

Pull the tick up and out of your pet’s skin. Experts recommend using a firm, and straight tug movement to remove the tick.

Needle

In the absence of a tweezer, you can use a sterilized needle to remove the tick’s head from your dog or cat. The needle must be sterilized. Use the pointy end of the needle to develop a wider opening for the tick’s head. This should be done in a gentle manner, to avoid breaking the layers of your skin. All you have to do is create a bigger hole in the area where the tick is located.

Try removing the tick’s head with the tweezer or use the printed end of the needle to remove the tick’s head.
