How to Remove a Tick Head from a Dog or Cat

How Do You Know If You Have Gotten the Tick out?

It is easy to know if you have gotten the whole tick out. If the tick is moving its legs, it means it still has its head attached to your pet’s body. In some cases, you may decapitate the tick in the process of removing it. You may still be able to see the tick’s head outside your skin. If you can still see the head after removal, it will be easy for you to tell if you’ve finished the job.

If the tick’s head is on the pointed part of the needle, it means you’ve gotten the head out. The tick’s head may break beneath your skin [3]. You may have to gently tug under the surface of your skin to get the tick out of your skin. Avoid digging under your skin to avoid spreading bacteria [4].
