Magnesium may help prevent migraine

Studies show [8] that magnesium may help [9] relieve or prevent migraine headaches. Migraines are chronic headaches that can be debilitating. They often come with nausea or increased light and noise sensitivity.
According to studies, people who have migraines are more likely [10] to have low magnesium levels in their blood. Magnesium deficiency is thought to affect brain neurotransmitters and blood vessels in ways that increase the risk of migraines.
The American Migraine Foundation [11] reports that people often use between 400 to 500 mg of magnesium to prevent migraines. A study suggests [12] that using 1 g of magnesium supplement helps relieve acute migraine symptoms better than regular drugs.
