Treatment for asphyxiation

The cause of asphyxiation affects the course of treatment. It may include:
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): Chest compressions are used during CPR to improve blood and oxygen circulation. This procedure is done when a person’s heart stops beating.
- Heimlich maneuver: The Heimlich maneuver is a choking first aid procedure. The procedure involves using abdominal thrust below the diaphragm to remove a foreign object from a person’s airways.
- Oxygen therapy: Oxygen therapy delivers oxygen to your lungs. It involves either an oxygen mask or nasal tube, a ventilator, a breathing tube, or both.
- Medication: A severe asthma attack, allergic response, or drug overdose can all be treated with medication. For Example, epinephrine (EpiPen) can treat anaphylaxis quickly.
