Ways HIV is transmitted
There are several body fluids that can transfer HIV, including:
- blood
- sperm
- Pre ejaculate (or pre-cum)
- Vaginal secretions [3]
- rectal fluids
- mother’s milk
Even though the virus may be present in these fluids, transmission is not always ensured. The fluids must be injected into you or come into touch with a mucous membrane or an open place for them to enter your bloodstream.
The most prevalent method of HIV transmission
The virus can only enter the body under specified circumstances since it is only present in certain fluids. Most frequently, HIV is spread by:
- Sexual contact
- From a parent and child during pregnancy, giving birth, or breast feeding
- Sharing needles or injections
