Why You Shouldn’t Cauterize Your Wound Yourself

It is safest to seek medical help for the procedure. This will also ensure the procedure is more effective. Your doctor will:

  • Make use of the right equipment
  • Know the right amount of electricity or chemicals to use
  • Know the specific tissue to burn for a good result
  • Know the right amount of pressure to apply to the area to avoid scarring
  • Administer local anesthesia to reduce pain
  • Take extra precautions based on any underlying medical condition you may have

There are certain things you can do to protect your wound while you wait for your doctor. These include:

  • Wash your hand, then place a clean cloth in the wound. Press the cloth on the wound for 5 minutes to help reduce bleeding. Do not remove the cloth from the wound until it reaches 5 minutes.
  • Rinse the wound with lukewarm water and gently pat around it with a clean cloth
  • Try keeping your wound above your heart if possible
  • Cover the wound with non-stick dressing to avoid Infection.
