After Cauterization Procedure

Cauterization is a delicate procedure and would require proper care afterwards. Keeping your wound safe from anything that can worsen it is very important. This will ensure proper wound healing and prevent complications. Your doctor will give you some detailed instructions on how to care for your cauterized wound. They include:
- Keep the wound dry for at least 48 hours after the procedure.
- Do not pick out your scab and wait for it to fall off on its own. This should take between 4 to 6 weeks
- Do not rub the wound.
- Stay away from very hot or cold things until the anesthesia wears off. This is so you don’t mistakenly burn yourself.
- Immediately place a clean cloth on your wound area if it starts to bleed and apply pressure on it for at least 15 minutes.
- If your cauterized wound is near your mouth, eat soft meals that require minimal chewing. Use a straw to take drinks.
- Do not swim until your wound completely heals
- Avoid smoking cigarettes as it can slow down healing
- Avoid exercise or movement that can stretch your wound
- Follow your doctor’s instructions on applying any special ointment that he may recommend.
Follow your doctor’s instructions on any pain medication that may be prescribed.
