Preventions of Dengue Fever

There is still no vaccine that protects against dengue fever. The best way to prevent the disease is to avoid mosquito bite, especially if you are living or traveling in a tropical area. There are a number of ways one can prevent mosquito bite and reduce mosquito population, some of which include:
Wearing Protective Clothes: Wearing of clothes that covers your body properly and reduces the area of skin that is exposed would help keep mosquitoes away. Consider wearing long pants, long sleeved shirts, socks, and even a hat especially when you go into mosquito-infested areas.
Remove Stagnant Water: This is one way to avoid the Aedes mosquitos. Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean stagnant water. Regularly inspect your surroundings to ensure there is no stagnant water. There are certain ways to reduce the risk of mosquitoes breeding in stagnant water, some of which include:
- Wash containers to remove mosquito eggs
- Do not place receptacles under an air-conditioning unit
- Change the water in flower vases regularly
- Prevent leaves from blocking anything that may result in accumulation of puddles
