Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy (FSHD) and Distal Muscular Dystrophy

Also called Landouzy-Dejerine disease, FSHD typically affects the muscles of the face, shoulders, and upper arms. The symptoms progress very slowly. They may appear as early as your teenage years or as late as your forties. People with FSHD often have a normal life expectancy. Signs of this disease [6] include difficulty chewing and swallowing, irregular mouth shape, slanted shoulders, and wing-like shoulder blades.
Distal Muscular Dystrophy affects the muscles of the hands, calves, and feet [7]. It may also affect respiratory and cardiac muscles. It is often discovered in middle-aged men and women. Signs include loss of fine motor skills, heart problems and breathing problems.
