Different Types And Signs of Muscular Dystrophy

Congenital Muscular Dystrophy and Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy

Symptoms of congenital muscular dystrophy are obvious at birth or before the child is two years old. Some progress slowly and cause mild disability while others advanced rapidly and are significantly more debilitating. The signs include poor motor control, spinal curvature, foot deformities, inability to sit or stand without help, difficulty swallowing and respiratory and vision problems [8].

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy affects the muscles of the hips and shoulders first. It may also affect the legs and neck. It affects both males and females. The symptoms typically begin in childhood and result in disability by age 20. The life expectancy of people with the condition is normal. Signs of this dystrophy include difficulty raising the front part of the foot, lifting heavy objects or climbing, and tripping frequently [9].
