Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: Symptoms, Diagnosis, Causes & Treatment

Diagnosis for EDS

A battery of tests may be used by doctors to identify EDS or rule out related diseases.

These tests may consist of:

  • measures of mobility
  • testing genetics
  • echocardiograms and skin biopsies

A medical professional may draw blood from your arm and check it for gene mutations in order to identify the genetic cause. They might also perform a skin biopsy to look for deviations in collagen activity. In order to do this, a small sample of skin must be removed and examined.

An echocardiogram involves the use of sound waves to create moving images of the heart. This helps your doctor know if there are any abnormalities present.
