What Are the Different Types of Wounds?

Wounds occur in different forms on the body. The most common types of wounds are:
- Surgical wound: This is one of the most common types of wound. It occurs when you sustain an injury during a surgical procedure. As you grow older, you are more likely to need surgery. However, an aging body does not heal quickly, so extra care and attention is often needed.
- Skin abrasions: The skin gradually loses its ability to divide and reproduce quickly as the body ages. The skin gets thinner, making it more prone to tearing, especially when it experiences any type of friction.
- Pressure ulcers: This type of ulcer is also known as bedsore. Pressure ulcers [6] occur when pressure is applied to the skin for a long period. This is usually caused by immobility or sitting and lying in the same place over a long period of time without changing position. If left untreated, pressure sores can be life-threatening. It is imperative to learn how to identify and treat them.
