Two main effects of soft drinks on your teeth
There are basically two main effects of too many soft drinks or soda on your teeth, which are erosion and cavities.
Erosion
Erosion happens when the acids in soft drinks come in contact with the tooth enamel [4]. The tooth enamel is the outermost protective layer on your teeth that protects them from daily use such as chewing, biting, and grinding. The acids in the soda tend to weaken the tooth enamel.
When enamel erodes, the sensitive dentine layer underneath is exposed, making the tooth more susceptible to damage, including tooth decay [5]. It can also lead to severe tooth pain and sensitivity. Erosion is a very serious dental issue, treatable but can be very painful, mostly because the enamel does not regenerate.
